National Tree Week events and popular 'Free Tree Giveaway' in Fingal postponed

Following HSE guidelines in relation to COVID–19, Fingal County Council has announced that events planned as part of National Tree Week have been cancelled until further notice. The popular "‘Free Tree Giveaway" has also been postponed, and it is hoped that it will be rescheduled for later in the year

Tree Week

In the meantime, residents can continue to appreciate trees while enjoying the outdoors and maintaining two-metre social distancing, or by simply looking out your windows if self-isolating. If possible, perhaps later in the year, plant a tree in your garden or while in the parks, open spaces or streets of Fingal, take a moment to appreciate their beauty and feel free to take photographs and send them to us.

Did you know that trees have been proven to have many significant human health and well-being benefits? Trees have been proven to relieve stress, speed up recovery time from illness, improve our mental health and encourage physical activity. They also clean the air we breathe, shade us from harmful UV rays and help prevent flooding and erosion.

Fingal County Council is currently working on revising our "Forest of Fingal Tree Strategy", with an aim to improve and increase tree cover in the County and to ensure the benefits of trees are guaranteed for years to come. You will have an opportunity to “Have Your Say” on the Tree Strategy later in the year so keep a look out on all our media outlets where details of the process and future events will be provided.
