A message from the Mayor of Fingal on International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day! Today is a day to celebrate the achievements of women everywhere. This year’s campaign encourages us all to ‘Embrace Equity’.

Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities.

Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

As Mayor of Fingal, I am privileged to work with many female Councillors as my colleagues. They are a passionate and professional group of people who advocate for their constituents and their communities. They each bring a unique and important perspective to the role of Councillor. In my role as Mayor, I also enjoy the opportunity to meet exceptional women in the community as they go about their valued work on projects and initiatives across the spectrum of sport, education, biodiversity, the arts, housing and every other corner of life.

Forging and protecting gender equity is a job for everyone, and it requires continual care and attention. I am committed to my role as an ally for the continued social, economic, cultural, and political advancement of women.

To the women of Fingal, I want to say thank you for your contribution to our County. Your successes inspire and enrich our lives on International Women’s Day and every day.

- Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Howard Mahony
