Medieval Wells at Swords Cultural Centre site

Fingal County Council has commenced work on identifying a suitable location to display the medieval wells that were uncovered during enabling works for the new Swords Cultural Centre.

It was impossible to retain the wells as part of the new building because this would have necessitated a redesign of the entire four storey building and would have also resulted in the significant loss of floor space.

The archaeologists, who are part of the enabling works team, have catalogued the wells and their reconstruction at a suitable location close to the new Cultural Centre is being investigated. The potential to display information, photographs and a 3D model of the wells inside the new building is also being examined.

At all stages, the discovery and removal has been overseen by the on-site archaeologists and carried out in accordance with best practice for finds of this kind,
