The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Seána Ó Rodaigh, has paid tribute to Councillor Freddie Cooper who passed away last night.

“It was with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Cllr Freddie Cooper and, on behalf of myself and my fellow councillors, I would like to offer my condolences to his wife Mary and his family on their sad loss,” said the Mayor. “Like myself, Cllr Cooper was elected at 2019 Local Elections and, in his two years on Council, he was an excellent representative for the people of Blanchardstown and Mulhuddart. Solas síoraí dó.”

The Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “The staff of Fingal County Council are extremely saddened at the untimely passing of Cllr Freddie Cooper and we extend our sympathies to his wife Mary and his family at this sad time. He represented the Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart Local Electoral Area with distinction and was always extremely supportive of any initiatives to improve other areas of the county.”

Cllr Cooper, who was a member of Fianna Fáil, was first elected to Fingal County Council in 2019 and represented the Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart Local Electoral Area.

As a mark of respect to the late Cllr Cooper, flags at County Hall, Swords, and Civic Offices, Blanchardstown, are being flown at half-mast.
