LEAF Funding Boost for 30 Fingal Community Projects

Fingal County Council is delighted to announce the successful recipients of funding under the Local Environment Action Fund (LEAF), with €100,000 being awarded across 30 community-led projects throughout the county. The funding recognises the outstanding commitment of community groups, organisations and volunteers who work tirelessly to enhance and protect the local environment, supporting initiatives that will deliver lasting benefits for biodiversity, sustainability and community wellbeing.

The LEAF programme is a new €3 million national initiative introduced by IPB Insurance and local authorities as part of IPB Insurance's centenary celebrations, marking 100 years of supporting communities across Ireland. Through the fund, Fingal County Council has received €100,000 to invest in grassroots environmental projects that contribute to local sustainability, climate action and biodiversity objectives.

Mayor Cllr Tony Murphy commented "We’re very fortunate in Fingal to have a wide network of Tidy Towns Groups, Residents Associations and other groups who provide immense value in delivering community enhancement. This fund will greatly assist in supporting them in achieving their sustainability, climate action, and biodiversity goals".

Fingal County Council received a high number of applications during the funding call in July. Allocations have been published today and will support 30 successful applicants, including Tidy Towns groups, community development organisations, residents' associations, community gardens, scout groups, allotments and men's sheds.

Projects being funded include a wide range of community gardening initiatives, biodiversity enhancement measures, rainwater harvesting systems and water butts, the planting of bulbs, shrubs and trees, and the installation of off-grid solar PV systems.

The overall objective of the LEAF is to empower Tidy Towns, Residents Associations and groups undertaking similar activities in both rural and urban communities to deliver projects across a range of themes that improve the environment and enhance biodiversity.
