As part of the implementation of the Fingal Skills Strategy, a survey of construction companies in the county was undertaken to determine the training and upskilling needs of the sector in 2022.

The construction skills survey results highlights the training needs of local companies in the county, with particular areas of focus on skills in project management, health and safety, building information modelling and building control regulations.

The survey results were discussed at the Fingal Skills Strategy Construction Sub-group meeting last week and how stakeholders can collaborate to meet existing and future training needs for the sector. The Fingal Skills Strategy Group will continue to facilitate communication between sectoral interests and education providers to deliver on the objectives set out in the Fingal Skills Strategy.

Mayor of Fingal, Councillor, Seána Ó Rodaigh said, “It is great to see such positive interaction, time and engagement from both the construction employers who completed the survey, and the training and education agencies who have been generous with their time and efforts in furthering the aims of the skills strategy. I look forward to the council continuing to act as facilitator with stakeholders who have such positive intent.”

Chair of the Fingal Economic Development Strategic Policy Committee, Councillor Tony Murphy commented, “There has been fantastic engagement from construction employers on the survey. The Council and education providers are analysing the survey results to understand and respond effectively to the needs of the construction sector. The collaboration between stakeholders on the implementation of the Fingal Skills Strategy is delivering positive outcomes for industry and education providers. This collaboration is key to addressing the existing and future skills gaps in the county and making sure that Fingal is well-placed to attract investment and provide jobs for our growing population.”

Siobhan Kinsella, Chair of the Fingal Skills Strategy said, “This is the reason that the Fingal Skills Strategy was created, to facilitate education providers in responding to the needs of local employers, and by extension helping to create further relevant employment opportunities. I am delighted that local employers are participating and would encourage others to get involved.”
