Community centres across the county will welcome visitors into their facilities as part of welcome weekend taking place on 5th and 6th of September, with Fingal County Council encouraging everyone to explore their local hub.

The public open days will see 32 community centres in Fingal welcoming residents to showcase what their local venues have to offer. Many locations are utilised for a wide range of activities, such as meetings for resident associations, sporting clubs, arts and crafts, training and a variety of youth activities.

Along with being a celebration of the various facilities, Fingal County Council wants to highlight the importance of community centres as spaces that bring Fingal residents together, motivating them to take part in the huge number of activities available and discover the different types of services that are provide by the council.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary said: "Community Centres are the heart of our towns and villages, offering a space for people of all ages to come together and connect. Whether you are a long-time resident or new to the area, this open day is sure to highlight the vital role of these centres in our communities."

Community centres are more than buildings, they are a core part of daily life in Fingal, supporting and serving local people. They bring people together, celebrate culture, support learning, and promote health and well-being. From classes and clubs to vital local services, they are places where connections are made, voices are heard, and communities grow stronger.

Director of Housing and Community Development at Fingal County Council, Paul Carroll notes: “We work throughout the year to support the large number of community centres located across the county. These welcoming spaces foster connections and create vibrant communities, and I would encourage everyone to visit your local facility and experience the range of services they have to offer.”

On the day, visitors can enjoy taster sessions and classes led by instructors from across Fingal, with light refreshments also provided. The event offers a great opportunity for residents to experience the beating heart of local life and uncover hidden gems just beyond their doorstep.

Visitors are encouraged to check with their local centre for specific schedules and event details.  For more information: https://fingalcommunityfacilitiesnetwork.ie/centres/.
