Over €280,000 in current and capital funding has been allocated to 92 community groups and organisations across Fingal today as announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, and Minister of State Jerry Buttimer.
The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht’s (DRCDG) Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2025 is administered by Local Community Development Committees, with support from the Local Authority, in each area. The funding provides capital support essential for the many small community groups and organisations, particularly those who serve disadvantaged areas in rural and urban areas.
This year also saw an additional funding stream for current expenses. An allocation of €38,404 was provided to assist groups with day-to-day essentials like electricity costs, refuse charges, heating charges, rental/lease costs and insurance bills.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh, said: "The LEP marks a significant investment in community groups and organisations across Fingal, particularly those working in disadvantaged areas. The capital element of the funding will enable groups to carry out much-needed repairs and improvements to their facilities, and to purchase essential equipment, while the current funding will help to cover essentials, day-to-day costs. Support of this scale from the LEP is crucial in sustaining and strengthening the work these groups do at a local level in Fingal."
Minister of State for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary said: “The Local Enhancement Programme 2025 continues to build on the vital supports provided to community groups through previous iterations of the fund helping them improve their facilities. It provides small-scale funding for projects which range from purchasing IT equipment to minor renovations to buildings and this year also provided an opportunity to groups to apply for help with their operational costs. The impact of the Local Enhancement Programme is considerable, and it allows community groups to carry out the invaluable work they do on behalf of others in local areas throughout the country.”
LEP funding was made available to support small capital works/improvements, the purchase of equipment for community use, including tables and chairs, tools, signage, laptops and printers, lawnmowers, canopies and training equipment as well as current costs; electricity costs, refuse charges, heating charges, rental/lease costs, insurance bills. Fingal County Council was allocated a total of €268,827 in funding for Groups across the county (€230,423 in Capital Funding, €38,404 in Current Funding).
