Keen to be Green

Ongar's "Keen to be Green" Festival Offers Sustainable Solutions

The Ongar Community Centre is hosting the "Keen to be Green" event on Thursday, May 15th, from 3 PM to 5 PM, as part of Climate Action Week. This engaging afternoon is dedicated to promoting sustainable living with a focus on sustainable fashion, community showcasing, and a swap shop.

Attendees can participate in a variety of activities, including "Your Sustainable Wardrobe" talk from 3 PM to 4 PM, presented by The Sustainable Life School. This session will cover the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry, provide tips for sourcing and passing on clothes sustainably, explain which fabrics are better for the planet and offer guidance on clothing care.

A Swap Shop will also be held where attendees can exchange gently used items for new treasures, promoting waste reduction and sustainable consumption. The D15 Toy Box will be present from 3 PM to 5 PM, delivering sensory play using recycled materials. Attendees can borrow a toy or sign up for the Toy Box's upcoming programs.

Additionally, the Riverwood Biodiversity Group will present a biodiversity talk from 4 PM to 5 PM, highlighting how a local group can make a positive impact on local wildlife conservation.

The event will also feature a community showcase of D15 Environmental Groups, including Oxfam Ireland, Riverwood Biodiversity Group and our Environmental Officer with Photographer. Attendees can also collect brown bin caddies and free dog poo bags and dispensers.

This event, supported by Fingal Community Department and Fingal Climate Action, offers a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and discover practical ways to contribute to a more sustainable future.
