European Mobility Week 2025
European Mobility Week runs from 16 to 22 September 2025, and Fingal County Council is proud to celebrate this year’s theme, “Mobility for Everyone,” which advocates for inclusive, accessible and sustainable transport options for all. Ballisk, Donabate One- Way System Trial
This year as part of European Mobility Week, Fingal County Council is trialing a one way system around the campus at Ballisk. The purpose of the trial is to improve road safety around the school by providing additional space for children and parents who are walking and cycling to school. The trial will run from Tuesday 16th September until Monday 22nd September.

School Street – Thornleigh Green, Swords
Thornleigh Green, Swords will be closed for the purpose of facilitating a temporary creation of a ‘’School Street” as part of European Mobility week. The roads will be closed from 16th September until 22nd September 2025 from 8am to 8:30am and 12pm to 2.15pm to encourage walking and cycling to school, reduce traffic and pollution near schools, improve safety for children, promote healthy habits. Diversions will be place and those travelling in the local area are advised to allow additional time for their journey.

Fresh Air Friday
On Friday 19 September, why not leave the car at home and we are encouraging you to make the switch to active travel for your daily trip to school or work. Leaving the car at home and choosing to walk, cycle or scoot is better for you, your mental health and the climate.

Car Free Day
Car Free Day takes place on Monday 22 September 2025 and we are encouraging residents to leave the car at home and explore more sustainable ways to get around. Play your part in creating a cleaner, healthier, and more livable community for everyone.

Fingal Pass
Fingal County Council have supported Bleeper in launching Fingal Pass, which gives residents countywide 30 minutes of their cycle trip for free. To avail of this, download Bleeper app, complete the application form https://bleeperactive.com/pages/fingal-bleeper-bikes, wait for Bleeper to verify your account and follow the activation instructions.

Fingal eBike Connect Scheme
To help Fingal Residents in Donabate/Portrane experience the benefits of cycling an eBike, Fingal County Council have partnered with Bleeper to develop the Fingal eBike Connect Scheme. Successful applicants will have exclusive access to their own eBike for a 3 month period for €20 per month, the usual cost would be €80 per month. Bike Library

Balbriggan Green Commute Project
Fingal County Council, in partnership with UCD and Irish Rail, is seeking six people who currently drive to Balbriggan Train Station and use the train 3 to 5 days a week to take part in a 6-month trial. Participants will receive free use of an electric bike along with secure bike storage at the station.
