Foul Drainage Connections to the Uisce Eireann Network
These are governed by Section 43 Water Services Act 2007
Foul drains are pipes not vested in Uisce Éireann and the maintenance is a matter for the owner(s) (or the persons served by the drain where owners cannot be identified). These in most circumstances connect to the Uisce Éireann network. Often when these go wrong, sewage can back up and flood a property usually a back garden. The owners are collectively responsible for their maintenance. Uisce Éireann has enforcement power to ensure owners fulfil their obligations.
If you have a problem and are unable to sort it out with your neighbours, you need to contact Uisce Éireann quoting the above section of the Water Services Act.
Foul misconnections from premises to a surface water pipe are a matter for the Local Authority under the Water Pollution Acts and not Uisce Éireann.
