Local Elections 2024

Introduction to Local Elections

The Local Elections will take place on Friday 07th June 2024 by order of the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage. The polling period will take place between 7.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. Relevant dates will be published online and in local newspapers in the official Notice of Election. The Notice of Election will be published not later than the 28th day before the polling day. This will give the public notice of the following matters:

  • The times for receiving nominations
  • The amount of the deposit
  • The times and place at which nomination papers may be obtained
  • The times and place at which the returning officer will attend to receive nominations
  • The day and the period fixed for the holding of the poll if the election is contested

Local elections are managed by Fingal County Council and candidates will contest for 40 seats across 7 Local Electoral Areas.

Applicants are encouraged in the first instance to use the online option: www.voter.ie.

 

Candidate Nomination Information

The Candidate Nominations period will be between 11th May and 18th May 2024. Fingal County Council operates a booking system for candidates to attend, by appointment, with nomination papers, which is available below. Candidates should familiarise themselves with the paperwork in advance of the nominations period.
