Locally led solutions at the heart of new community partnership
The new Fingal North Local Community Safety Partnership has met for the first time — a key step in a more community‑focused approach to safety and wellbeing
The newly established Fingal North Local Community Safety Partnership (FNLCSP) has held its first meeting, marking an important milestone in the delivery of a new, community‑focused approach to safety and wellbeing across the county.
The FNLCSP brings together representatives from local communities, An Garda Síochána, Fingal County Council, statutory agencies and other key stakeholders to work collaboratively in identifying local safety priorities and developing coordinated responses to issues impacting communities across Fingal North.
Welcoming the formation of the new partnership, the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary said:
“This is a much‑needed initiative that recognises the importance of listening to local communities and working collaboratively to address safety concerns. The Fingal North Local Community Safety Partnership will play a vital role in bringing agencies and communities together to improve wellbeing and help build safer neighbourhoods.”
The Fingal North group operates under the national Local Community Safety Partnership framework and replaces the former Joint Policing Committee model. It places a strong emphasis on community engagement, prevention and shared responsibility, with a clear focus on ensuring that the voices of local communities are central to shaping responses to safety and wellbeing concerns.
Elected Chair of the newly formed FNLCSP, Cllr Corina Johnston, said: “This partnership is an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between services and communities, and to develop locally driven solutions to issues affecting safety and quality of life. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to deliver tangible and lasting benefits for communities across Fingal North.”
The FNLCSP will continue to meet on a regular basis to identify priorities, oversee initiatives and support partnership‑based approaches to community safety.
Superintendent Ronan Barry, An Garda Síochána, said: “Community safety is strongest when Gardaí, local services and communities work together to address shared concerns. The Fingal North Local Community Safety Partnership provides an important local structure to enable collaborative, preventative approaches that help keep our communities safe and supported.”
Through its inclusive and locally focused approach, the Fingal North Local Community Safety Partnership aims to build stronger relationships, improve trust and deliver practical outcomes that reflect the needs of diverse communities.
AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, said: “Safe and thriving communities are built through continued cooperation, shared ownership and practical action at local level. The Fingal North Local Community Safety Partnership will provide a strong platform for agencies and communities to work together in shaping solutions that respond to real needs and make a lasting, positive difference for people across the area.”
By aligning local knowledge with coordinated action, the new partnership will support safer, more resilient neighbourhoods and contribute to improved quality of life for people living and working across the region.
