Grant Description:

The Local Environment Action Fund (LEAF) is a grant programme that supports the sustainability aims of local Tidy Towns and similar voluntary community groups that contribute to enhancing their community’s local environment.

Tidy Towns and resident’s groups can apply with local partners where appropriate/ if desired, such as schools, community groups, sports clubs etc. to deliver environmental and climate action projects of various sizes.

Objective:

To empower voluntary community groups and Tidy Towns committees to take meaningful climate action and enhance the local environment through impactful, community-driven projects, in collaboration with community stakeholders.

Eligibility Criteria:

Who Can Apply 

  1. Groups undertaking community environmental enhancement activities like clean-ups on a regular basis. This must be their core activity.
  • Tidy Towns Groups
  • Residents Groups & Estate groups
  • Community Centres
  • Scouts
  • Youth Clubs
  • Men’s Sheds
  • Women’s Sheds
  • Community Gardens and Allotment Groups
  1. Groups must be based in the Fingal County Council Administrative area.
  2. Groups must be registered with the Fingal Public Participation Network (PPN).

Project Types:

Projects must focus on climate action and/or environmental enhancement. Examples include but not limited to:

  • Biodiversity Conservation, polytunnels, raised beds in privately owned lands (eg. schools, sports club grounds) or in community gardens already in existence.
  • Tree Planting on private property eg. schools, sports club grounds, 
  • Perennial planting in existing flower beds in estates, 
  • Renewable energy projects eg. off-grid solar, small solar systems on privately owned buildings e.g. scouts, community centres, 
  • Waste reduction & Recycling bins with signage for segregating waste.
  • Water Conservation eg. rain-gardens, waterbutts, rainwater harvesting, 
  • Interior murals or mosaics with environmental/ climate theme in school halls/ sports clubs and climate resilience projects.
  • Public education campaigns and leaflets and/ or webpage.

 

Community Collaboration:

Applications may include collaboration with at least one other community stakeholder group (for example, local school(s), youth club(s), gardening groups, Lyons club, sports club, men’s/ women's sheds etc.).

 

Applications will be scored under the following categories:

  1. Relevance to Climate Action/Environmental Goals (30%)
  2. Community Engagement and Impact (30%)
  3. Feasibility and Sustainability (20%)
  4. Innovation and Creativity (20%)

 

Grant Awards: 

Grant awards range from €1,000 up to a maximum of €25,000

Grant funds may be paid to successful applicants in advance of project delivery if necessary

 

Submission Requirements

Please register at the link below and submit a completed application form through the portal which includes the following:

  • Details of any partnership with another community group/ club 
  • Details of objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes
  • Budget breakdown
  • Evidence of PPN registration
  • Upload quotations (one per project)
  • Successful applicants will have to ensure that Fingal County Council are indemnified on their insurance policy

Grant Opens 19th June 2026 9am.

Deadline for Completed Applications via the portal is Friday 17th July 4.30pm.

Applicants will be informed of outcomes before 31st July 2026.

Successful applicants will have 14 weeks to deliver projects until 6th November 2026 including uploading invoices and other documentation and drawing down the grant funds from Fingal County Council.
