Proposed Play Space for Castleknock

Fingal County Council is proposing the development of a neighbourhood play space, designed for children age 4-12.

The proposed play space will encourage imaginative play and healthy physical activity while offering an attractive leisure amenity that will benefit residents, businesses, school children and commuters, bringing significant environmental, economic and health benefits to the wider community.

What's Happened So Far

Fingal County Council’s Operations Department has surveyed the open spaces within the Castleknock area to identify those suitable for a play space.

Factors considered include size of open space, local demographics, parking facilities, proximity to transport hubs and community facilities, topography, proximity to residents and opportunities for passive surveillance.

Preliminary research has been undertaken regarding potential locations for a new play space. 5 locations have been identified as potentially suitable for this amenity. These locations are:

  • Laurel Lodge
  • Opposite Castleknock Community Centre
  • Opposite Oak Tree Green / Laverna
  • Opposite Sycamore Avenue
  • Open space adjacent to Castleknock Road and Woodpark

You can fill the survey out online at: https://consult.fingal.ie/

Next Steps

Following this research, Fingal County Council’s Operations Department will forward the results of this survey together with the 5 locations proposed, to the Planning and Strategic Department for their consideration.

A formal Part 8 planning procedure will then be followed, for the delivery of a play space to the Castleknock area and application for planning permission to build the amenity. A statutory public consultation will take place at that time and members of the public and local interest groups will be invited to participate in the consultation process.
