Workshop: Identifying bumblebees & taking part in the monitoring scheme 

Learn about bumblebees, how to identify Ireland’s 21 different species, and how to take part in the monthly bumblebee monitoring scheme. This workshop will include indoor and outdoor components. Participants will be provided with a free bumblebee identification swatch.

Q&A on grassland management for local groups

Join ecologists to discuss how to turn grassy areas back into species-rich meadows. This session will include tips on what to expect and pitfalls to avoid. It will also discuss the disadvantages of inappropriate wildflower seed mixes. There will be opportunities to highlight what future resources could be put in place to assist you around this action.

Learn how to do 10-minute Flower-Insect Timed Counts (FIT Counts) to monitor insects  
 

Join experts to learn how to carry out a FIT Count. This is a simple way to help monitor insects in your local area. It involves watching a patch of flowers for 10 minutes and counting how many insects visit. You’ll learn how to carry it out and how to recognise the different insect groups.

Workshop: Train the trainer workshop on collecting & using local wildflower seed 

Learn what native meadow plants are most important to our pollinators. This workshop will discuss how to collect small amounts of local seed to boost existing meadow diversity. The aim of the day is to train people who would then be willing to pass on their knowledge to others in their local community

Creating habitats for Bombus muscorum in Skerries; demonstration of local seed collection and propagation 

Learn which wildflower seeds was collected and the ongoing management in creating a habitat for Bombus muscorum. This will be demonstrated on the wildflower meadow in Skerries Educate Together National School.
