As part of Fingal County Council’s Centenary Programme we have scheduled a Family Memorabilia Day. Members of the public are invited to bring along items of interest such as letters, medals and photos that tell the story of their family connections to the 1916 Rising and beyond to 1923.
The purpose of the Family Memorabilia Day is to give families with a connection to Fingal an opportunity to bring their precious items and memories related to the revolutionary period 1915 -1923 to be catalogued and digitised in order to unearth and make available the hidden histories relating to this pivotal period in Irish history. If you have items that you would like to bring along you can book a time between 12.00pm and 4.00pm.
Experts will be on hand to digitally photograph the material which will be used in time to develop an online resource. Historical experts, auctioneers, book sellers and genealogists will be on hand to give advice. A screening of ‘ A Terrible Beauty’ video accompanied by a talk on same.
So if you have a box hidden in the attic or under the bed that holds a story of a family member that was involved in the 1916 Rising and beyond to 1923 then come along.
