Since April 2014, Fingal Libraries have written and published over 200 blogs. With a wide range of traditional and digital services on offer and thousands of FREE events and activities running across our 10 branches, we have a lot to talk about and share with our Library Users – existing and new. So why do we enjoy blogging and what is the purpose behind it. Take a look at some of our top reasons…
At its core, blogging is a great online communications tool, which has given us a platform not only to share our mission and vision, but also to inform our Library users about the wide range of services we offer . The impact of our services (existing and new) can be limiting if people are not aware of the services on offer. Our Library blog is an engaging way for us to inform our Library users of the potential benefits of our services such as, our extensive range of FREE online services which includes daily newspapers, hundreds of learning courses and magazines, music and video streaming, language courses and a wide range of eBooks for Adults and children.
Connecting with communities is at the heart of what we do at Fingal Libraries. By keeping our users informed, we are reinforcing the trust and relationship between Library staff and the community. Blogging allows us the opportunity to connect and network with individuals who share similar interests. Unlike many social sites, users of our blog can browse through our range of content and pick and choose the topics that interest them the most – a knowledge base which we hope will enhance their online experience. So why not browse through our range of blogs today. You will find information about our many initiatives including the Right to Read programme which provides literacy support and reading development for children and families. We have many fun programmes running in our branches to promote reading development for our younger borrowers such our Baby Book Clubs, Spring into Story Time, Summer Stars and Family Time at Your Library.
Fingal Libraries continuously strive to expand their role in their local communities. Our aim is to help and support people develop their digital skills, acquire and develop other skills through various lifelong learning opportunities and offer an impartial and trusted space for people to create, learn, and connect. Our extensive programme of services reflects national programmes around themes such as culture, creativity and heritage (Creative Ireland and Fingal Local Studies & Archives), health and well-being (Healthy Ireland at Your Library and Read your Mind: Supporting Young people’s mental health), employment and entrepreneurship (Work Matters) and science (Fingal Libraries STEAM programme). Our Library blog endeavours to reach audiences across all ages, cultures and ethnicities with the purpose to inspire and encourage change.
Our Library blog is a great opportunity for us to attract new library users who might not be aware of our range of library resources. Blogging offers considerable potential to increase membership and usage, making libraries more relevant to a broader audience. We aim to write blogs with valuable and helpful content to those who may be unaware of some of the important innovations and developments of recent years such as the recent launch of our new fleet of Mobile Library vans which bring books all over the county. Our Mobile Library is a valuable service to those in rural areas, schools, crèches and residents with limited access to public transport. Each van has on-board Wi-Fi and visitor seating available for library users who need access to the internet on their phone or tablet.
Our Library blogs are written by our very talented and skilled, Library staff. Content is written not by one author but collaboratively by a community of authors who work at Fingal Libraries. And like our Library users, our blog offers a diverse range of topics to help meet our users needs. Ranging from book recommendations from Library staff to environmental endeavours, our Library blog provides a welcoming environment which we hope will keep you informed on what is happening at your Fingal Library.
Fingal Libraries provides a modern, well-resourced learning hub and community space for all. Keep informed, browse through our Library blog and discover something new about your local Fingal Library.
