Christmas Books

Some Christmas books for borrowing!

Blanchardstown Library got into the Christmas spirit with great enthusiasm on Tuesday, December 4, as we celebrated the season with song, stories, and puppets!

The day started with a special ‘My First Christmas’ story-time with Ciara, where parents and children enjoyed lots of magical tales and tunes. Meanwhile, three classes from Tyrrelstown Educate Together National School enjoyed a performance of ’13 Santas for Joey’, by the incomparable Simone Schuemmelfeder, who is a regular visitor to Fingal Libraries.

Later on in the day, we held our inaugural Family Time at your Library event. Letters to Santa were written, and beautiful bookmarks and gift tags were made, while Ciara and Aoife told some Christmassy (and some not-so Christmassy) stories with the families who joined us for the afternoon. Our favourites on the day were the beautiful ‘You Read to Me and I’ll Read to You’ by Mary Ann Hoberman, which encourages parents and children to read together, and the hilarious ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped a Princess’ by Tom Fletcher. We also got the opportunity to talk to our borrowers about their favourite stories and books, and to recommend some new reads for Christmas and beyond.

At 6:30pm, the spotlight was on Custard Pie Theatre Company, for a funny, but heart-warming Christmas show. Through all the antics of the wide range of puppet characters, we learned the vital lesson that ‘it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice’.

Finally, the stage was set for the return of the always popular Coolmine Musical Society, who brought the day to a close with some of our favourite Christmas songs, against the backdrop of our Christmas tree.

Though our Christmas events are over, you can still enjoy the festive spirit in Blanchardstown, with our realistic fireplace proving a hit with our borrowers. Created by staff, and located in the Culture Corner, the fireplace offers a serene place to read a book, or even just relax during the Christmas rush! We also took delivery last week of a Postbox from Santa himself, so if you have yet to write your letter, call into Blanchardstown Library and post it through to the North Pole!
