Learning in the Library

Our Libraries hold an extensive collection of current fiction and non-fiction, Irish and international books for children, which can be read in the library or borrowed for home. Our collections of books are up-to-date and provide good quality information on a wide variety of homework subjects. If you can’t find a book on your subject, ask a Library staff member for help. They can order a book from another library for you or alternatively, you can browse our Online Catalogue, order a book of your choice and arrange to have it collected from your local Library, free of charge.

Fingal Libraries provide designated computers for children which are available to use for homework and school projects. These computers feature a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, Windows Media Player, all to help your Child with presenting their Homework. In addition, we offer free Wi-Fi which will allow children to work on their project from their own device.

Online Learning 

Britannica Junior is an award-winning learning resource for children aged between 6 to 12 years. It offers children reliable and comprehensive information in a safe environment. At a time when so-called fake news is on the rise, the content on Britannica is compiled by expert authors.  The website is accessible 24 hours/7 days from all devices – PCs, laptops, tablets and smart phones and features more than 100,000 articles, 60,000 images and videos, an interactive world atlas, a Merriam-Webster dictionary and much more. Britannica’ search facility makes it easy to find the content you need and at a reading level appropriate for your child’s age.

Ask About Ireland’s Learning Zone  is great for history and environmental information about Ireland.  The Ask About Ireland Learning Zone Primary School content has been developed by the public libraries service in conjunction with primary school teachers and in consultation with other educational bodies. The website groups information by primary school class i.e. Infants, 1st & 2nd Class, 3rd & 4th Class and 5th & 6th Class and provides information on subjects such as History, Geography, Science, Environment, Irish, English, Music and Art.
