Welcome to the season of ‘Bealtaine’ – the season of early Summer when new hope beckons to all nature.
Bealtaine events are taking place during the month of May in Fingal Libraries and all over Ireland.
Music Appreciation with Ted Courtney
Here in Ireland, we also celebrate the season of ‘Bealtaine’ with song and dance. We are delighted to welcome broadcaster, lecturer and musician Ted Courtney to four Fingal Library branches this May to give music appreciation talks as part of the Bealtaine Festival.
Ted Courtney will be discussing:
- The music of O’Carolan and the similarities to Vivaldi in ‘O Straviganza’
- Irish traditional dance, not the difficult tap dancing we see in ‘River Dance’ but the ‘Walking to music’ with linking arms in the ‘Ceilidhe’
- Irish Song – The simple and cheerful airs and songs like: ‘Oro se do bhea abhaile’ , ‘A Phadin big’ ‘Beidh Aonach Amarach’, ‘Dile no damhas no damhas’, ‘Anois ag teacht ‘. Easy to sing and full of joy.
- The Key of Peace – The role of voice and song in reconciliation, reaching through barriers between alienated people to create mutual trust by cultivating inner harmony and peace; especially now as more and more people who have just become Irish citizens wish to embrace our ancient culture.

“Noah’s Wife missed the Boat”
We are delighted to announce Carnation Theatre will be performing their play ‘Noah’s Wife missed the boat – she left the washing out!’ in Blanchardstown Library and Malahide Library to celebrate the Bealtine Festival this May. The principle characters are a couple in their twilight years who, after a lifetime together, know what gets on the other’s nerves. Music plays a large part, so expect some rousing tunes to blow those rain clouds away. If you just want to put the feet up, sit back, listen and have a lovely afternoon’s entertainment, this is the ticket!
Contact Blanchardstown Library: (Tel) 890 5563 or Malahide Library: (Tel) 870 4430 for further details.

Mandala Art & Meditation with Patricia Fitzgerald
Discover your mindful self through mandala colouring and journaling. Patricia will give a presentation on the fascinating history and philosophy behind Mandala. Each workshop involves a presentation about the history and philosophy of mandala and Patricia’s personal story of how she came to do them and how they have helped her. The workshops involve an element of guided meditations and an art element involving colouring a pre-drawn mandala or creating your own mandala from scratch (using markers/pens/pencils – there is no paint involved!). See more of Patricia’s work at healingcreations.ie.
