As we moved in to the New Year of 2017 many of us resolved to drop our bad habits and work on self improvement. We are now in the second week of the New Year and this is perhaps the time that all of our resolve begins to weaken. If you think you need some extra encouragement or assistance, we are here to help!
Fingal Libraries have a range of self help books, online services and events & activities that take place in your local library.
Self Help Books
Our range of self help books cover such topics of giving up smoking, losing weight, overcoming anxiety, fitness (might be useful if you have signed up for Fingal park runs) and lots lots more. Allen Carr’s “Easy way to stop smoking” is a popular choice and is available for reserve on the library’s online catalogue.
Learn a language
A good starting point to learn a language is to borrow a language CD set from your local library. We have Michel Thomas language learning courses available along with other books including Berlitz rapid learn books. Do ask staff to advise you on your next visit to the library. Another option for language learning is to sign up for Mángo which is our online language learning offering. With over 70 languages available, you can register using your library card number and create a username and password. Mángo can be accessed on a phone or tablet via the Mángo Languages app. and you can then use it to learn a language 24/7 in any location that is convenient for you!
Start a course
Over 500 courses of study are offered free to Library members through Universal Class. With courses ranging from topics such as healthcare, accounting, spirituality, pet care, office skills and mathematics, there really is something for everyone. Like Mángo, Universal Class is available online so once again you can study a course in your own time, at your own pace and in a place that suits you.
Take up a Musical Instrument
ArtistWorks is our latest digital offering and it allows you access high quality instructed music and art lessons online. These video based lessons are recorded by award winning and highly acclaimed teaching artists. With lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced students there are lessons to suit all skill levels and experience. This service is a great way to learn a new skill on your own schedule from the comfort of your own home on your computer or tablet. Click here to sign up for Artistworks. In addition to Artistworks, budding musicians can also borrow books and DVDs which cover the topic of learning their chosen instrument from their local library.
Events & Activities
A range of events and activities take place in every Fingal Library throughout the year. to keep up with all that is going on in your local branch ask to be added to their event email list on your next visit or you can visit the library page where all of the library events are listed.
And finally if you resolved to use your local library regularly in 2017 we look forward to greeting you on your next visit!
